KEITH UNDERWOOD CLASS A SUCCESS!
Students of all levels came together over Labor Day weekend to learn new techniques and review
or rework old ones with Master Teacher Keith Underwood. Using live performers and previously recorded sessions with
students from all around the world, Mr. Underwood used his unique ideas and teaching style to enlighten and entertain us.
We all walked away shaking our heads and asking, "How does he come up with these great ideas?" We look forward
to finding out more next year!

ANOTHER TERRIFIC BOOT CAMP AND INTRODUCTION OF CAMP CODA
The 2011
summer flute camps have come to a successful conclusion. Many thanks to the hard working students who attended both
Flute Boot Camp and Camp Coda! We coaches (Carla Wilson, Gail Gillespie, Sydney Carlson and Denise Westby) had a blast
guiding you through 7 pieces of music, how to figure out the circle of 5ths/keys, tuning to a drone, instrument maintenance,
extended techniques, interpreting music, and much more! The performance was wonderful. Bravo!
Camp
Coda's inaugural year was also deemed a success by all who attended the 3-day intensive camp for soloists. The participants
learned 3 solos from 3 genres: baroque, classical, and romantic periods. By the end of the camp, performance techniques
such as ornamentation and phrasing were better understood. The overall time periods were also eye-opening and gave the
players some framework for each of the pieces that they ultimately performed. An added benefit was being able to use
the church harpsichord with our baroque piece! What a wonderful experience. Next year, the camp will be pushed
to 4 days for more one-on-one time.
